Medical & Surgical Services

Avian & Reptile Surgery

Specialist surgical care for the pets other clinics refer elsewhere.

Not every vet operates on birds and reptiles

Avian and reptile anatomy and anaesthesia require specific training most general practices don't have, which is why many clinics refer these cases out. We don't – species-specific technique and monitoring, handled in-house.

Specialist Surgical Services

Species-Specific Soft Tissue Procedures

Surgical technique adapted to the anatomy of birds and reptiles - not generalised from cats and dogs. See the Avian and Reptile pages for species detail.

Monitored Anaesthesia for Exotics

Anaesthetic protocols and continuous monitoring built for the specific risks birds and reptiles carry - not adapted from standard small animal protocols. See our Anaesthesia page for more detail.

What to Expect at Your Visit

1

Consult

Assessment of your bird or reptile and surgical plan discussed with you - what the procedure involves and what to expect.

2

Pre-Surgical Screening

Species-appropriate health checks before any procedure - bloodwork and other assessments as indicated.

3

Procedure Day

Surgery under species-specific monitored anaesthesia with continuous vital monitoring throughout.

4

Recovery & Discharge

Monitored recovery with discharge once we are satisfied the animal is stable - with aftercare instructions for at home.

I am very grateful for the excellent care my parrot received at this exotic veterinary clinic. From the moment we arrived, the staff were friendly, welcoming, and attentive. The veterinarian was highly knowledgeable about birds and handled my parrot with great care and patience. They took the time to explain everything clearly and provided helpful advice on my parrot's health and ongoing care. It was reassuring to see how experienced they were with exotic pets, and I felt confident that my parrot was receiving the best possible treatment. The only problem is that they don't operates 24 hours a day, it would be much better if they were open 24 hours.

Had a great experience at Exocare Veterinary Medical Centre. The staff and veterinarians are very friendly, helpful, and genuinely care about the animals. Service was fast and efficient, and the consultation fees and treatments were reasonably priced. What impressed me the most was their excellent after-service support. They were responsive to follow-up questions and provided clear guidance on post-treatment care. The doctors are highly professional, especially when it comes to avian medicine. It's not easy to find a vet with strong knowledge and experience in bird healthcare, so it's reassuring to know my birds are in good hands. Highly recommended for anyone looking for quality veterinary care for exotic pets and birds!

Avian and reptile anatomy and anaesthesia require specific training that differs significantly from cats and dogs – not something every general practice has. We handle these cases in-house rather than referring elsewhere.

It requires different, species-specific protocols rather than standard cat and dog anaesthesia – which is why we use monitored anaesthesia designed specifically for these species. See our Anaesthesia page for more detail on how we approach this.

Mass removal, wound repair, and GI foreign body removal type procedures – the same categories covered on our Soft Tissue Surgery page, adapted for avian and reptile anatomy rather than generalised from cats and dogs.

Recovery criteria and monitoring are specific to the species – what is normal for a bird differs from a reptile. We monitor until we are satisfied the animal is stable before discharge, and provide species-appropriate aftercare instructions.

Yes – if your bird or reptile needs urgent surgical intervention, contact us promptly. For our broader emergency services, see the Emergency Treatment page.
