What Are FIV & FeLV?
FIV and FeLV are viral infections that affect a cat’s immune system. Both are serious, but with proper long-term management, many affected cats live comfortably. A positive test result is not an automatic death sentence.
Transmission commonly occurs through bite wounds or close contact with an infected cat. Indoor cats with limited contact with other cats carry a much lower risk of exposure.
Symptoms To Watch For
Poor Appetite
Reduced interest in food, often linked to underlying illness or secondary infections affecting the cat’s comfort.
Lethargy
Persistent low energy or withdrawal — a sign the immune system is under stress from infection or secondary illness.
Recurring Infections
Frequent or slow-healing infections as the immune system becomes less able to respond effectively.
Oral Disease
Gum inflammation, mouth ulcers, or chronic dental disease are commonly seen alongside FIV and FeLV.

A FeLV vaccine exists for cats at risk of exposure — ask us whether it’s appropriate for your cat’s lifestyle. There is no approved FIV vaccine currently available in this region.
